Acupuncture - Long Term Solution to Weight Loss?
Dave Cahill
Long term weight loss is proven to be a daunting task for most. As a result, many bounce from one diet to another and for every pound they lose they gain it back and then some down the road. This common problem has led many to seek other methods of weight loss and weight control than what has been traditional touted and has led many to turn to acupuncture as an alternative, more natural method to weight loss.
Using acupuncture to treat weight loss involves standard acupuncture practices. Treatment amounts to the insertion of strong, hair thin needles into selected areas of the body that trigger the body to react in a specific, pre-determined fashion, depending on the placement of the needles.
Acupuncture causes the body to release endorphins which are the body's feel good chemicals that help to relieve pain. Treating weight problems with acupuncture enables the patient's body to release endorphins that results in appetite control. When a patient is severely overweight, an acupuncturist may find it necessary to dig deeper by asking a number of questions to determine the root cause of the weight problem. Sometimes it may be due to behavioral patterns or physiological reasons.
Regardless of the root cause the weight problem, treating it using acupuncture will consist of the usual insertion of needles into different parts of the body that will help the body to function better and induce weight loss. Weight loss results are normally best when an acupuncturist successfully induces an increase in the output of pituitary gland.
Treating weight loss with acupuncture also works by helping the patient reduce their craving for certain types of food and it should also encourage a smaller appetite. Lowering insulin or lipid levels in the blood through proper needle placement is another way in which acupuncture treatment can help the overweight patient shed those unwanted pounds.
Another positive aspect of treating weight loss with acupuncture is the lack of any known side effects. There is also zero chance of the patient becoming addicted because it's a completely natural method of increasing the patient's weight loss efforts.
Treatment should be regularly repeated so that the effects are maintained. A single treatment will not induce permanent long term weight loss.
In summary, clearly attention must be paid to diet and exercise and the acupuncturist will surely provide guidelines along these lines to assist the acupuncture treatments. Proper food must be consumed to ensure proper energy flow throughout the entire body. For those who have struggled with weight loss, treating it with acupuncture should boost their chances of losing weight and keeping it off.
