Acupuncture as an Alternative to the Traditional Surgical Face Lift
Dave Cahill

Acupuncture is the treatment for the imbalance of life energy, also known as chi and the problems caused by that imbalance. The underlying belief is that the body's energy must be in balance for optimal heath and when the energy is misdirected or out of balance, illness and pain result. The body's chi is redirected by needles placed along the pathways or meridians of chi that emanate from the major organs along the back, limbs, palms and ears to stimulate and draw energy back into proper balance. Acupuncture has been shown to relieve and alleviate pain and in some parts of the world, it's used for non-surgical face lifts.

One unfortunate result of the natural aging process is sagging facial muscles and skin. For recorded history, individuals have tried to reverse the effects of time through the use of massage, creams and surgery to restore the vibrant look of youth. Today, more and more are turning to acupuncture as a viable alternative for youth restoration in the form of the face lift.

It has been demonstrated that a series of acupuncture treatments can restore some of the skin's lost youthful appearance. Some of the skeptics feel that the results are nothing more than endorphins being released or the stimulation of collagen. Unlike modern medicine that always treats the symptoms of disease if an acupuncturist determines that the skin is sagging due to an underlying health issue, the treatment may not involve points on the face at all but in the acupoints along the proper meridians that will bring a restoration to the underlying imbalance.

Unlike facial surgery, acupuncture for face lifts requires no recovery time. Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes treatments - whether herbal therapy, change in diet, acupuncture or pressure - that don't cause injury or side effects. Patient testimonials from those who have undergone acupuncture for face lifts state they feel an increase in energy as well as an overall, gradual, more youthful appearance. However, one drawback is the need for multiple treatments, which does cost money and depending on the number of treatments, acupuncture for face lifts may cost more than surgery.

Acupuncturists claim that acupuncture for face lifts can increase skin elasticity, collagen production, tighten the face, restore hydration, improve muscle tone and eliminate toxins found in lymph and edema. Improved skin tone also reduces the fine lines and puffiness that is a common sign of aging.

Because the effect of using acupuncture to improve your youthful appearance is gradual more people in the public eye are turning to it. The effect is gradual but daily treatments can be scheduled to prepare for a movie or special event without having to conceal the swelling and bruising that accompanies plastic surgery.

Using acupuncture as an alternative to the traditional surgical face lift is often part of an overall health program that can develop a healthier, more energetic feeling. For many it's becoming a viable alternative that is worth looking into when a more youthful look is desired. In a nutshell, giving acupuncture for face lifts a try isn't much of a gamble.
