Acupuncture and Allergies - Feel the Relief
Dave Cahill
Watery eyes, sneezing, difficulty swallowing, respiratory problems are just a few of long list of problems associated the allergies. The common thread is that these are reactions by the body to various substances the cause your immune system to react abnormally.
Clearly, all who have allergies have learned to do their best to avoid the conditions that cause them. On the other hand, some of the most common allergies are caused by pollen, dust and other natural occurrences, which are virtually impossible to avoid and you simply have to treat them as they happen.
Treating Allergies Walk down any aisle in your local grocery store containing medicines and you quickly realize that there's an incredible number of drugs that treat everyday allergies but if you spend a little time to read the boxes you'll also quickly realize that very few are designed to treat the more severe allergies caused by food. When triggered a food allergy will usually send one to the emergency room. Of course, treating them before they occur is the right thing to do but consistently doing what's necessary is easier said than done.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that uses different sized, thin but strong needles that are inserted into the body in precise locations that results in the stimulation of the nerves. Using acupuncture to treat allergies has resulted in remarkable results in a number of sufferers.
Using acupuncture to treat allergies for most people is not a one time thing. Ongoing sessions during certain times of the year, when you're most susceptible, may be required and because allergies are normally lifelong companion the goal when using acupuncture to treat allergies is one of control versus cure. Acupuncture for allergies will bring temporary relief but it will not make your immune system tolerant to the allergens that cause it to go into overdrive.
Acupuncture for Allergies - Does It Hurt Many are hesitant to even try acupuncture for allergies because the whole concept of having needles inserted into their skin if a bit scary and to the uninitiated it seems like it's got to hurt. However, the great news is that acupuncture is virtually pain free. Except for a slight initial prick when the needle is first inserted you won't feel a thing. Simply relax and let the acupuncturist take over so you can enjoy the benefits as soon as possible.
A Final Thought If you're less than satisfied with modern medicine or you would like to get off the drugs and try a more natural method of controlling your allergies then give acupuncture a try but remember, treatment for allergies using acupuncture should only be practiced by an experienced, certified acupuncturist.
